Summer Research Internship
About this role
Seeking x 2 students for a summer internship (on-site).
Brief Description of work
Are you interested in a summer research internship at the School of Computer Science? The research team led by Dr Donghwan Shin (https://dshin.info) is seeking a motivated and technically skilled undergraduate student to join as a summer research intern.
You will contribute to cutting-edge research projects focused on ensuring the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles through simulated environments. These include the EPSRC-funded *SimpliFaiS: Simplification of Failure Scenarios for Machine Learning-enabled Autonomous Systems* and the IITP-funded *Simulation-Based Testing for Mobility Cyber-Physical Systems of Systems*.
In this role, you will gain hands-on experience by setting up and configuring open-source driving simulators (such as CARLA and BeamNG), implementing research tools, and running experiments to support ongoing research activities. You will work alongside researchers and international collaborators from South Korea, contributing directly to real-world projects.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain early research experience, build a track record of open-source contributions, and potentially co-author research publications. It is particularly well-suited for students considering a PhD or an academic career after graduation. Upon successful completion of the summer internship, strong candidates may continue part-time during the upcoming academic year, subject to agreement, until June 2026.
We welcome applications from students of all backgrounds and are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.
